Another completed house concept

Project: Nong Wua So - 3 Bedroom Home

Posted By on August 15, 2011

We have recently completed the initial concept design for a three bedroom two storey home which is to be built in Nong Wua So, near Udon Thani. Our client came to us with an initial design of a home which they liked, but wanted the floor plans and exterior styling developed further into something that more suited their style and requirements. We have worked with them to produce the final design concept that you see below. We are now busy with the structural engineering and planning phase and hope to have a complete set of plans and documentation ready by the end of August. Construction is due to begin in early September.

We are now up to the roof level with the concrete structure of the modern two bedroom home project.  The next stage is to add in the precast concrete slabs for the floor and the roof structure.

Footings and first stage columns

With our latest project in Thip Thani, we have finished pouring all of our footings and the first stage column structures, and are now preparing the ground floor beam reinforcement structures and applying the form work ready for casting.  We are also busy with the heavy metal work and form work in preparation for the basement floor and walls.

Wall rendering and architectural detailing

Project: Fao Rai - 2 Bedroom Home

The roof is no complete, as is all of the main interior and exterior wall rendering.  On the exterior, we are now adding the architectural detailing to the house and adding the four staircases.  Inside we are beginning the wiring and ceiling work.

Roof Tiles

All of the block work has been completed and the roof tiling is also almost complete.  We have now begun chasing the conduit into the internal walls ready for the electrical first fix and also preparing the surfaces and edges for rendering.

Floor going in, walls going up

Project: Fao Rai - 2 Bedroom Home

We have finished casting of all of the columns and beams.  The floor slab has now been poured.  In this case we used pre-cast concrete slabs over which was laid a steel mesh.  A layer of concrete was then poured over the tope of this.  This method is much quicker than adding in supports and shuttering and then pouring one thick concrete slab.  Most of the walls have also now been built.  Due to budget constraints with this project, we are using standard blocks, rather than the thermally insulating blocks that we have used on other projects.

We broke ground on our 2 bedroom house project in Fao Rai on 16th January.  On 18th Jan we poured the concrete footings. We then prepared the formwork for the first stage columns, which were poured on 22nd Jan.  Yesterday we began to prepare the wooden structure that will support the main beam formwork.  The beams are due to be poured on 27th January.

Bali Style Home

Project: Other Projects

Although this project began back in June 2010, I realised that it is not one that I have ever mentioned before on the blog.  The client, a friend and fellow designer, had an idea for a home that consisted of a complex of  small buildings set amongst the trees in a mature tamarind orchard.  There was to be a master bedroom suite building, a living room / lounge building and a larger building housing the kitchen, dining room, laundry and guest bedroom.  These buildings were all to be set around an ornamental lotus pond.  There were also to be two further buildings to act as self contained guest accommodation complete with kitchen, living room and bedroom suite.  The property was also to have a swimming pool.  Although I have headed this blog post “Bali Style Home”, it is really a fusion of Bali style with a number of other different asian styles of architecture and design.

Our friend came to us with a clear picture of exactly what he was going to build and asked if we could develop the concept into a full set of architectural and engineering drawings and submit them to the Nong Khai planning department for approval. We produced the drawings and after jumping a few hurdles with the local planning department, permission to build was granted and construction is now well underway and, in fact, nearing completion.  Our friend is managing the build himself and I am excited to see the finished property because it is sure to be stunning and something quite unique for Nong Khai.  Certainly, from my last visit, the site is really beginning to take shape and his eye for detail is clearly evident in the concept and in the build so far.

With his permission, I shall try to add some photos of the finished home once complete.  In the mean time, here are a few of the engineering drawings that we produced for the project.

The new design…

Project: Thip Thani Project 2

Having spent the last 10 days consulting with our client, the redesign of our second project in Thip Thani is now complete.  Our client had been watching the progress of our first Thip Thani project “Baan Sanploen” and liked the general layout, but also loved the general look and feel of my original design for the second Thip Thani plot that I posted pictures of a couple of weeks ago.   So the new design could be considered to be a hybrid of the two designs.

Yesterday morning I passed on all of the architectural plan drawing to structural engineer.  I should have drawings back by the end of the week and break ground on Saturday.  The target completion date is early September.

The next project…

Project: Thip Thani Project 2

Posted By on April 8, 2010

Yesterday, after a lot of searching and negotiation, we finally managed to secure the plot of land for our next building project. This plot is also in Thip Thani, about 100m from our other building project.  However, this plot of land is slightly larger and bordered on two sides by the stream that flows around Thip Thani.

I now have to get to work designing a home to fit with this land, which I shall be starting shortly.  I intend to have the design completed by the end of April so that the footings can be dug ready for the workers to get straight to work once they have finished the current build in mid May.

Thip Thani - Plot 2

Thip Thani - Plot 2

As you can see, the plot is a bit of a Jungle at the moment, but tomorrow the land will be cleared and levelled.  That should give a much better idea of what we have to work with and make it easier to visualise a property on the land.  As I mentioned, the land is bordered on two sides by a stream, however during the rainy season this can become more like a raging torrent!  In order to secure the land from erosion we will shore up the land over the next few days if it is required.  This is a job that certainly can not wait as the rainy season should be starting any day now – it will definitely be easier to shore up the land while the stream is just a trickle.
